Can’t be on the coast yourself? Do the next best thing - Sponsor a volunteer! Volunteers Gotta Eat Too!
Each member of the Persevere Operation staff has committed to volunteering for an extended period. What better way to support the relief effort than to sponsor a volunteer? Volunteers are on the ground bringing about positive change but need your help. The volunteers have been working an exhaustive schedule simply to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Despite a lack of funds and demanding conditions, the Operations Staff is working harder than ever lifting, hauling, cutting, and building. While monetary and in-kind donations cover most of the costs associated with living in Mississippi, these long-term volunteers do have some expenses that are not covered. The biggest expenses facing long term volunteers are gas and food costs. Sponsorship Options and Ideas Want to help but can not afford to outright sponsor a volunteer? Just like our work along the gulf coast – every little bit helps. For instance $25 pays for a volunteer's lunch for a week.
Adopt a volunteer for a month ($250) (This covers gas, food and durable work clothes)
Donate toiletries and other basic necessities. Donate gas cards or airline miles to assist with travel to and from the region.
Purchase gift cards to national chain stores that are in the area to help cover food and other necessities. Winn Dixie, Wal-mart and Choice grocery stores are in the area How else can you help?
Organize a club, office, local businesses, town, church, class, or group of friends to chip in and sponsor a volunteer or two!
Ask your local grocery store or hardware store to "adopt" a volunteer by "passing the hat." This may take the form of "tip jars", "rounding up on receipts" or many other ways.
Organize a fundraiser with a particular group you may belong to--car wash, bake sale, garage sale, pick up cans at local colleges, mow lawns, etc. Be creative!
